As public health indices continue to improve throughout the world two years after the epidemic, major cities, states, islands, and nations have decided to reduce or even  completely eliminate any COVID-19 entry restrictions. Early spring is always a busy time for traveling, and 2022 is no exception. Fortunately, tourists will have considerably more options and face far less obstacles, than they did a year ago, when it comes to traveling for leisure or business. This spring, a number of well-known tourism locations have eased or are in the process of removing key COVID-19-related entry obstacles for visitors.

#1 Hawaii

For Americans, visiting Hawaii is about to get a lot simpler. The state’s Safe Travels program for domestic travelers will end on March 25. This implies that while visiting Hawaii, U.S. visitors will no longer be required to register a Safe Travels account, demonstrate their COVID-19 immunization status, or take a pre-travel test.

#2 New York

New York City has eased limitations, and the city’s divisive COVID-19 vaccination requirement for certain indoor establishments including restaurants and entertainment venues has expired as of March 7

#3 Puerto Rico 

Domestic aircraft passengers to Puerto Rico will no longer need to fill out an official Travel Declaration form, present a negative COVID-19 test result, or provide proof of immunization as of March 10. Mask mandates and capacity limitations for public and private enterprises and places such as restaurants, bars, theaters, and event venues will also be lifted.

#4 Bermuda

Bermuda’s COVID-19 limitations have been relaxed as of March 7. Travelers aged two and above must have documentation of current COVID-19 vaccination status as well as a negative antigen test taken two days prior to arrival or a negative PCR test performed up to four days prior to arrival. Visitors must also submit a Travelers Authorisation form 24 to 48 hours ahead to arrival for a fee of $40, down from $75 previously. According to the Bermuda Tourism Authority, minors 11 years and under will take on the vaccination status of the caregiver they travel with.

#5 Ireland

From March 6 onwards, international visitors to Ireland are not subject to COVID-19 limitations. That means you won’t have to produce proof of immunization or recovery, negative test results, or even fill out the Passenger Locator Form, as previously necessary (PLF).

#6 Costa Rica

Beginning April 1, unvaccinated passengers will no longer be requested to complete an online Health Pass, and unvaccinated tourists will no longer be required to acquire travel insurance. Furthermore, as of April 1, businesses such as sports, cultural and academic organizations, and even nightclubs will be allowed to operate at full capacity without the need of vaccine QR codes.

#7 Maldives

Fully vaccinated visitors to the Maldives are not required to produce a negative COVID-19 PCR test upon arrival, nor are they required to provide a negative PCR test prior to departure. However, all inbound foreign travelers must still fill out the Traveler Health Declaration form 48 hours before their journey.

#8 Italy

Italy has also recently relaxed entry procedures for visitors from non-European Union nations, such as the United States. A negative COVID-19 test result is no longer required for fully vaccinated passengers as of March 1. Additionally, with a negative test result, unvaccinated persons coming to Italy may not be required to be quarantined. Furthermore, credible documentation of recovery from COVID-19 will be accepted by Italian officials.

#9 Jamaica

As of March 1, travelers to Jamaica are no longer required to complete a Travel Authorization form, and travel-related quarantine procedures have also expired. A negative COVID-19 test, whether antigen or PCR, taken within 72 hours prior to the day of travel will still be required at check-in for children 12 years and older.

#10 St. Maarten

Visitors, who have been completely vaccinated or who have recovered from COVID-19 in the previous nine months, visiting the Dutch Caribbean island of St. Maarten do not need to provide documentation of a negative test upon arrival. Unvaccinated visitors must still give a negative PCR test 48 hours in advance or an antigen test 24 hours in advance. All passengers, regardless of vaccination status, must complete a health pre-authorization form at stmaartenentry.com at least 72 hours before arriving to the island.

#11 Australia

Australia, one of the most popular tourist destinations, has reopened to vaccinated visitors, with Western Australia becoming the country’s final state to eliminate interstate and international travel restrictions.

#12 Iceland

Late this month, Iceland abolished all remaining COVID-19 limitations. International visitors can now visit the European island country without having to provide confirmation of COVID-19 immunization, a negative test, or be subjected to strict quarantine.

#13 Israel

Israel is now welcoming travelers from all around the world, regardless of their coronavirus vaccination status, as of March 1. Travelers must, however, present a negative PCR test obtained within 72 hours of departure, as well as a second PCR test upon arrival.

#14 Saint Lucia

Visitors visiting the Dutch Caribbean island of St. Maarten who have been completely vaccinated or who have recovered from COVID-19 in the previous nine months do not need to provide documentation of a negative test when they arrive. Unvaccinated visitors must still present a negative PCR test 48 hours in advance or an antigen test 24 hours in advance. All passengers, regardless of vaccination status, must complete a health pre-authorization form at stmaartenentry.com at least 72 hours before arriving to the island.

#15 The Bahamas

The Bahamas is similarly lowering entry criteria elsewhere in the Caribbean. As a result, visitors to the islands no longer need to undergo a COVID-19 rapid antigen test on their fifth day of stay.
