Important News in travelling: Vaccination and recovery certificates

Further to an announcement by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) yesterday on 5th April, certain changes have been scheduled for domestic travel as well as for vaccination and recovery certificates. 

 

1.Validity of vaccination certificates is increased from 7 to 9 months and becomes unlimited for those who have taken a booster dose – no testing requirement

All passengers will be able to travel without any testing obligation, holding solely their vaccination certificate, valid up to 9 months after completing the basic vaccination and with no time limit for travellers that have taken a booster dose. The European Covid-19 Certificate shall also be valid 

 

2.Validity of recovery certificates increases from 3 to 6 months – no testing requirement

At the same time, holders of a recovery certificate, valid for up to 6 months, will travel with no testing requirement. Thus, further to the former notam where the two certificate types were valid for 7 and 3 months, validity period is now extended to 6 and 9 months respectively. 

 

3.Non-vaccinated passengers – testing requirement 

All non-vaccinated passengers must take a PCR test within 72 hours prior to boarding their flight or an antigen test 48 hours prior to flying. 

 

4.Under aged passengers 4- 17 years old: self testing 

All passengers aged 4 to 17 can board the aircraft for their flight after having taken a self-test up to 24 hours in advance. 

 

Other important notes:

  • For international passengers arriving from abroad, vaccination and recovery certificates, or negative tests shall be accepted in Greek, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Russian. A prerequisite for such documents is of course to be issued by an official public authority.
  • Wearing a mask throughout the flight and in all areas of the airport remains mandatory.
  • Αll travel documents are controlled by airline staff and by police authorities within the scope of sample check at the airport. All documents must be submitted for boarding either in electronic form or in hard copy.
